Reporting on Vodun Days in Benin with the Network of Journalists

Repro Uncensored is joining the Network of Journalists of Benin and our contributor, Fleur Olive Oussougoe, to report on Vodun Days, a major international cultural and spiritual gathering held annually in Ouidah. Taking place each January in the historic cradle of the Vodun religion, Vodun Days positions Benin as a living center of cultural heritage, spirituality, and artistic expression.

Initiated by the Government of the Republic of Benin, Vodun Days builds on the legacy of the former National Vodun Festival and brings renewed international visibility to Vodun as an ancestral tradition that is both spiritual and cultural. The event transforms the historic city of Ouidah into an immersive, living space for ceremonies, performances, and collective gatherings spanning temples, public squares, and coastal sites near the Porte du Non-Retour.

Vodun Days brings together practitioners, artists, communities, and international visitors to celebrate Benin’s intangible cultural heritage while challenging the stereotypes, erasures, and misrepresentations that have long shaped global narratives around Vodun. Through rituals, music, dance, processions, and public celebrations, the event affirms Vodun not only as a religious practice, but as a force for social cohesion, cultural transmission, and intercultural dialogue.

By reporting on and supporting Vodun Days, Repro Uncensored stands alongside initiatives that defend narrative sovereignty, cultural self-determination, and the right of communities to define and share their own histories, belief systems, and living traditions—particularly within a global media and information landscape where spiritual and cultural knowledge is too often distorted, sensationalized, or silenced.
